Mark VII: Selmers største feiltrinn?

Bodil Niska plays a Selmer Mark VII tenor saxophone. In the mid-1970s, the H. Selmer company in Paris decided to replace their Mark VI model which had been a huge success with musicians for almost 20 years. The Mark VII was much heavier, had a bigger bore than its predecessor, was difficult to play and suffered from production errors. It turned out to be one of Selmer’s biggest commercial mistakes. Yet to this day, no other tenor has the full, sensual sound and the breathiness of the "Seven". It continues to be the instrument of choice for dedicated artists who favour tone over technique.
